Hi, I'm Adam Miller and I am the artist behind PX10 Pottery.
Ceramic Artist Adam Miller finds much of his inspiration in nature—from the hobby farm he grew up on, to the woods of northern Minnesota where he enjoys hunting and hiking. He received his BA in visual arts from the University of Minnesota. Adam lives in Minneapolis and teaches ceramics at Richfield High School.
Adams work is unique and consists of several different techniques to get the visual effects he achieves on his pottery:
Slip Transfer- Paper transfers, whether complex or simple, single or multi-colored, planned or spontaneous can be applied in the greenware state and then fired. Paper transfers are very versatile and can be used on flat, curved and/or irregular surfaces. The ability to make a line drawing and then apply it to a cylinder, bowl, sculpture or tile, which are usually more difficult to draw on directly, is what makes this process exciting. With paper transfers, one important thing to keep in mind is that the image or design will be reversed during this process.
Sgraffito - (in Italian "to scratch") is a decorating pottery technique produced by applying layers of color or colors (underglazes or colored slips) to leather hard pottery and then scratching off parts of the layer(s) to create contrasting images, patterns and texture and reveal the clay color underneath.
